Kite flying

Thailand is probably the only country in the world that have made kite-flying a sport. The events take place from late February to late May. The rules that is in use today were designed in 1905 by King Chulalongkorn.

You get divided into two teams. One team with the male dragon (Chula), which is almost two meters long and is fitted with a hook. One team with the female dragon (Pakpao) that are smaller and more graceful, and with a longer tail.

The game or sport is that Chula with his hook is trying to catch Pakpao and pull her down into his territory by using its tail. In Bangkok, you can find the games at Sanum Luang and in Lumpini Park in the afternoon after work. You can rent chairs and buy food locally.
